Tuktoyaktuk opens shelter for customers without power

The Mayor of Tuktoyaktuk is opening a shelter at the Mangilaluk School at

5:30 p.m. today to assist residents who are without power.

Customers are asked to make their way to the shelter if they can do so safely, otherwise please wait for hamlet staff to arrive. Hamlet staff will be going door-to-door in the affected areas and transporting people to the shelters if required.

Storms passing through the Town earlier today caused two power outages to more than half of the community and persistent high winds are keeping crews from getting to town.  An NTPC crew is set to fly in tomorrow as soon as the weather clears and will begin restoration upon arrival.
