Small Fire Extinguished at Inuvik Gas Plant

Sep 22, 2018

HAY RIVER, NWT (September 22, 2018) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) has reported that a small fire occurred yesterday afternoon at its gas plant in Inuvik, NT. The fire was contained in an exhaust pipe and was safely extinguished by employees prior to the arrival of the Inuvik Fire Department.

No employees were injured as a result of the fire and an initial assessment indicates that there was no major damage done to equipment. A full investigation will be conducted by NTPC to determine the root cause of this incident.

NTPC has sufficient excess generating capacity in Inuvik to continue to provide a reliable supply of power to customers.

NTPC is a wholly owned subsidiary of NT Hydro, which in turn is 100 percent owned by the Government of the Northwest Territories.
